Weston park... What a weekend! Super close racing at all levels made it the best race yet... A new format saw some of the tightest qualifying we have ever seen with some pilots separated by only a second or so after 40 laps which made for phenomenal watching both live in person and on the fantastic live stream from Drone Racing Streams. Everyone was pushing their gear hard but the batteries were surviving on what was a super fast track. The finals demonstrated flying on another level with the A final going down to the wire and a tie break situation with Harry Holmes and Saul Irving tied on points after the last of the triple finals. In the end the podium was was occupied by Owen Knight back to racing after a break for his A-level exams taking 3rd, Harry Holmess took 2nd and the seemingly unstoppable Saul Irving took the top spot. Congratulations on the win Saul! Now to thank those who made it happen... thanks to all the pilots and their associated supporters without you we cant run events like this, thanks to race control Jamie Cole ran a tight ship all weekend and kept the racing moving along, thanks to Simon Airjacker Pow for his tireless efforts to keep the track inflated, thanks to Team Wooly Sheep sheep for helping out with the site prep and getting the track situated, thanks to Jason Platts for saving the weekend with his mower, thanks to Betafpv for the prizes check them out at www.betafpv.com , thanks to the guys from Drone Racing Streams it is a really polished production. Now its time to get ready to do it all again in September (but bigger and better) we look forward to seeing you all there! ... See MoreSee Less

BDRA Team Selection -Weston Park – 18th-20th June 2021 – Key Points

by Jamie Cole

Team Selection Information

The ‘Weston Park – Model and Camping Air Event’, running from the 18th-20th June 2021, will be the 2nd of 3 ‘BDRA Team’ selection events. The qualification points from these events will be used to put together a team to represent the UK.

Clarification of key points given in advance

‘BDRA Team’ qualification will take place over 1 stage (the qualification portion of the event) there will be at least 8 qualifying rounds and for BDRA team qualification a pilot’s best 3 rounds will be used to determine their qualifying position.

Qualification format will be based on the number of laps completed in the fastest time. Rounds will last for 2 minutes, 30 seconds will be given to pilots to complete their last lap. Pilots completing the same number of laps will be ranked on the time taken to complete those laps.

The track layout will be kept secret before the event, it will include standard race features plus a dive gate. The track will be approximately 300m long.

Get Qualifying for the Team GBR F9U Drone Racing Team!

by Matthew Evans

If you weren’t aware already, a few events have been popping up in the drone racing scene that are debuting as qualifying events for a ‘team selection’ event. We’ve had a few questions regarding these events so we thought we’d clear some of that up for you.

So what is the team and what is it for?

Well, these are the Team Selection events for the Team GBR F9U Drone Racing Team which will compete in the FAI World Cup.

How many qualifying events will there be?

There will be a further 3 TS (Team Selection) events held throughout 2021, the first of which will be hosted in Hull on the 23rd of May. Details found here: https://league.ifpv.co.uk/events/169. Further TS events will be announced in due course.

How does the qualifying work?

Your best 3 of 4 events scores (based on qualifying results of said events) will go into a ranking table and they will be counted towards crowning the top pilots of the Team Selection process.

4 Events, you just said 3?

The 2019 FAI qualifying event at Barkston Heath also counts due to the 2020 F9U WDRC being postponed due to the Coronavirus Pandemic.

Does this put me at a disadvantage if I did not attend or scored badly?

No, because 3 of the 4 TS events count, you can still attend the remaining 3 events yet to be ran and become part of the the team.

Where can I find more information?

Feel free to ask us any questions you may have or you can read the ins and outs in full detail in the FAI rule book.
